Funkis & Street Art: Kitchen Mini-Makeover
Concept
The main goal of this project was to breathe new life into an old "funkis" kitchen without resorting to costly demolition. We focused on creating a personal identity for the client while maintaining the honest structure and functionality of the original cabinetry. This is a story of how color and graphics can completely reimagine a familiar space.
Key Solutions
The project was executed as part of the "Do It Yourself" package.
The client’s brief was to transform the kitchen without astronomical costs.
After a comprehensive Needs & Lifestyle Analysis, the following design concept came to life:
-
Color Strategy : Three palette options were proposed for the cabinet fronts in deep, dramatic tones: Midnight Blue, Forest Green, and Dark Wine. Using complex matte colors based on the NCS system (S 8010) achieves a premium visual effect with minimal investment in the renovation.
-
Graphic Statement: The backsplash and walls became the primary decorative focus. Three design concepts were presented: minimalist white tiles (10x10) with black grout as a subtle nod to tattoo graphics, a monochrome black-and-white mural, or bold graffiti protected by tempered glass.
-
Materials & Textures: To add a sense of refinement, we proposed treating the pine countertop with a pigmented hard-wax oil. This creates a teak-like effect that harmonizes perfectly with brass and metal hardware.
-
Accents: Vintage appliances (a Marshall speaker, retro kettle) and open shelving for vinyl records highlight the owner’s lifestyle, turning the kitchen into a natural extension of a creative studio.
All elements and colors are curated to allow the client to Mix&Match them at their discretion, adapting the final result to their budget and needs.
The Result
This project is a manifesto for conscious design. We provided a solution that, even on a limited budget, transforms an ordinary kitchen into a space reminiscent of a modern art film set, while remaining a comfortable place for daily life.

Package adjustments: Since the original "funkis" layout was already optimized and didn’t require structural changes, we adapted the Do It Yourself package to better suit the client’s needs. In place of traditional spatial planning, we utilized AI-driven 3D visualization to rapidly explore multiple aesthetic directions. This allowed the client to instantly see the potential of each color and graphic concept in a realistic setting, speeding up the decision-making process.
